Despite the money required to obtain a second citizenship, it is considered a great economic alternative and its value is known only by its holder.
Since there is not much difference between the benefits offered by Caribbean citizenship and other citizenships, the high investment prices of obtaining a Caribbean second citizenship are still an ideal bargain. Even after raising the investment amounts, they are still less valuable than the investment amounts required in the rest of the second citizenship programs around the world.
2024 is a year of uncertainty and a year of wars, political and trade conflicts. For this reason, second citizenship provides ease of global mobility and an alternative strategy against political, geographical and financial variables.
Although investment requirements in the Caribbean have risen recently, they were previously more expensive. The price of citizenship used to cost $500,000, but the government reduced it to $100,000.
Specifically, in 1984 in St. Kitts, second citizenship programs in general and Caribbean citizenship in particular began to emerge, followed by the rest of the four other Caribbean citizenships, and over the years that followed, 88,000 people obtained a Caribbean passport.
Although the $200,000 used as a contribution option is not considered a true investment as it is considered a non-refundable donation to Caribbean countries, it is still a preferred option for some.
In March 2024, the leaders of 4 Caribbean countries signed a memorandum in which they agreed to raise investment amounts to obtain their second citizenship. Saint Lucia did not sign the memorandum and promised to sign it at a later date.
As of July 1, 2024, the new costs have been approved and implemented in 4 countries, with the exception of Antigua, which has set August 1 as the date to raise its investment rates. and Nevis already raised investment rates last year.
