Recent changes in Grenada citizenship

1. Hiring a new CEO

Earlier this year, Grenada Citizenship Commission Chairman Richard W. Duncan appointed Thomas Anthony as the new CEO of the Citizenship by Investment unit.

Anthony brings 25 years of experience in investment banking and immigration. He also served as the CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship Program, and previously held the same position in Grenada.

2. Mandatory personal interview

Thomas Anthony signed an ordinance making the interview mandatory for all individuals applying for citizenship from Grenada who are 17 years of age or older.

3. Increased due diligence fees

Government payments for due diligence have been increased by up to $1,000, which means that due diligence fees have increased from $5,000 to $6,000. This increase is due to the mandatory interview for applicants aged 17 and over.

Anthony adds: “We are proud to be one of the most expensive Caribbean programs and the results we are seeing today are the result of that, and meanwhile the Grenada citizenship program will not change as strongly as its peers, thanks to our exceptional due diligence program for US visa Treaty E-2 coverage.”

Grenada is the third Caribbean country to make changes to its programme, after St. Kitts and Dominica, and it is expected that the changes will extend to all remaining programmes. Dominica added an extra layer of due diligence and St Kitts followed the same.

These changes, including the requirement for an in-person interview, are part of the Grenada Promise to the US Treasury, and Anthony insisted that the program’s evolution and changes are inevitable to make the program sustainable.

4. Residency prior to obtaining a US E visa

To apply for a USA E-2 Nonimmigrant Visa, citizens of Grenada must have resided for at least 3 years in Grenada before applying for the mentioned visa. Excluded from this are citizens who have previously obtained an American visa of any kind for non-immigrants.

1. Unconditional citizenship

Grenada does not require investors to reside before or after obtaining citizenship. Academic degrees, scientific experience and language knowledge are also not among the requirements.

Upon submitting the application and waiting for a period not exceeding 6 months, you can obtain your citizenship without revoking your first citizenship, because Grenada accepts dual citizenship.

Eligible family members who may be included in the application

◈ Unmarried siblings of at least 18 years of age of the main applicant and/or spouse, childless and dependents from their side.

Investing to obtain Grenada citizenship

Contribution to the NTF National Transformation Fund

Individuals can contribute non-refundable amounts to the National Transfer Fund in the amount of $235,000 to obtain Grenada citizenship, and the required amounts increase according to the number of individuals added to the application with the applicant.

Invest in Grenada real estate

An investment in real estate approved by the Government of Grenada worth US$270,000 or US$320,000 is sufficient to obtain Grenada citizenship.

The beauty of this option is the possibility of reselling the property after 5 years of purchasing it, thus retrieving the sums that were used to purchase citizenship while retaining Grenada citizenship, but there are some non-refundable government financial additions.

It represents $270,000 as a share for a person participating in the property, provided that he invests no less than $320,000 himself. As for the amount of $320,000, it is a real estate investment for one person only, without participation.

Remaining requirements for Grenada citizenship

◆ In addition to investing in one of the two methods, applicants are required to provide evidence that their funds have been obtained from legal sources.

◆ The applicant and his family members must undergo a health examination to ensure that they are free of diseases.

◆ All individuals aged 17 and over are required to undergo a mandatory virtual interview.

◆ The nationalities that cannot apply for Grenada citizenship at the present time are North Korea and Iran.

◆ Reasons for your file being denied include: providing false evidence, past legal violations, current legal investigations, security concerns, and problems with visas entry being refused to other countries.

Steps to obtain Grenada citizenship

◈ Choose to invest in the National Transfer Fund or in real estate as desired.

◈ Prepare the necessary documents, including a valid passport, birth certificate, health certificate, and police report.

◈ Submit the application through your agent with the necessary documents and processing fee.

It is worth noting that you cannot apply for this program yourself, but you must authorize an office approved by the Government of Grenada for this. They, in turn, will complete all application procedures themselves, starting from preparing documents, translating them, to providing advice, submitting the file and obtaining citizenship.
