Saint Kitts and Nevis Government issued a resolution stating that the State began strengthening its relations with India, deepens and the USA.
The government newspaper in St. Kitts documented a written statement in which it stated that the Prime Minister and the rest of his ministers, including First Minister Denzel Douglas, held a session in the NEMA conference hall in the capital, Basseterre, on February 13, 2024. This was in order to highlight St. Kitts’ diplomatic relations and its commitments with other countries.
Foreign ministers and managers stressed the importance of strengthening international relations with its partners represented in India, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America.
Dr. Douglas said that they are working hard to strengthen bilateral relations and advance their diplomatic interests, and their relations with India, the United States of America and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are among the priority countries.
The Dr. added that these initiatives reflect the strategic relationships and approach taken by Saint Kitts in this field, with a focus on partnerships that facilitate the national development of the State of Saint Kitts and contribute to global stability.

Minister of St. Kitts, Mr. Douglas, said India is one of the countries St. Kitts needs to help train the people of St. Kitts in emerging industries. Focus areas include technology, sports, green energies and the transition to geothermal sources.
In addition, Dr. Douglas explained that it is important to strengthen diplomatic relations with India, starting with the appointment of two honorary consuls in Bangalore and Mumbai, in addition to the appointment of Dr. Umit Telang as a new High Commissioner in the capital, New Delhi.
India opened an honorary consulate in Basseterre in August 2008, and relations between them began in the mid-eighteenth century when the two countries were British colonies.
There is commercial cooperation between the two countries in the field of clothing, jewelry and medicines, academic cooperation and scholarships in the field of study at Indian universities, and scholarships for Indian students at the Windsor Medical University in St. Kitts.
As for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency the Minister explained that recent fruitful efforts in the field of multinational and bilateral cooperation between countries led to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia requesting Saint Kitts and Nevis to establish an embassy in the Kingdom.
He stressed the importance of cooperation between these two countries, given that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the most economically developed countries at the present time, highlighting the benefits that this cooperation brings to both parties.
Earlier last year, specifically in November 2023, the Prime Minister of Saint Kitts, Mr. Terence Drew, met with the Chairman of the Saudi Development Fund, Mr. Sultan Al-Murshed, at the beginning of the Saudi-Caribbean Summit in Riyadh. The meeting focused on developing the basic projects of St. Kitts.
Also in November 2023, Mr. Abdullah Al-Sahlani presented his credentials to the Governor-General as the Kingdom’s new Ambassador to St. Kitts, which officially began diplomatic relations in 2016. It is worth noting that St. Kitts is the first Caribbean country to receive a visa exemption from the Kingdom.
The Saudi Development Fund also financed the Niedsmuth power station in St. Kitts. The project included the installation of new generators and a metering system for the electricity company, helping to provide energy to St. Kitts and Nevis and supporting economic and social development.
The United States of America remains St. Kitts and Nevis’s most important partner, and serves as a cornerstone of St. Kitts and Nevis’s global relations.
